Keep a spray bottle filled with water on the table/counter. (Note: DO NOT use a spray bottle that once contained any kind of cleaning fluid or chemicals, like an empty Windex bottle. You can buy a brand-new, empty spray bottle at stores like CVS and Wal-Mart). Whenever the cat jumps onto the counter/table, spritz the cat with water (cats hate getting wet). After awhile, just the sight of the spray bottle will (hopefully) be enough to deter the cat from jumping onto the table/counter.
You can also try shaking a coffee can filled with coins at the cat. It makes a very loud noise that most cats hate.

Cats don't like Oranges and citrus fruits, they could stop them going on counters. Bladesmanshawey I use a squirt gun, a small water pistol that I bought for less than a dollar. I actually have three of them and keep them in places where I want to keep my cats off. Whenever they jump up on a counter or table that is off limits, I squirt them gently. They don't associate it with me because they don't understand where it is coming from and it is only a harmless minor distraction to them. OBTW, I try and not look at them as I'm doing it. That way they have less chance of associating the squirting water with me doing the squirting.
