As you type, Excel displays the entry in the FORMULA BAR, and also displays the active cell reference int he Name box on the left.

At the top of your worksheet is the formula bar. On the left side of the formula bar is a small window that displays the active cell reference or name.
The cell address (or name) window is above the worksheet (usually below the menu bar). When you click on a cell, you will see either the cell address (e.g. A3) or cell name (e.g. Total; if you assigned a cell name).
It has a bold border and the name box (top right, to the left of the formula bar) displays the cell address or name.

A formula bar is used to work in Microsoft Office, spreadsheet or others to format cells, combine text from two cells into one, format numbers to add, subtract etc. It's a bar where you can choose different formats for data.
