It is a bird watcher's paradise with 465 species including the American Eagle, Canadian Goose, Spotted Owl, a wide variety of ducks, chickadees, osprey, swans, loons, herons, robins, jays and the White Pelican. The North American fur trade played a major role in the settlement of British Columbia and beaver, muskrats, marmots, wolverines and badgers continue to maintain a healthy population. The larger mammals like elk, deer, moose, caribou, cougar and bear continue to thrive. There are 80 species of Freshwater Fish and the coastal seas provide whale watchers hours of pleasure and the porpoise and dolphin maintain large populations as do the Harbor seals and river otters.

There is also a large number of domestic agricultural animals and pets.
