Crabtree Hot Springs is plenty hot at 106 F(41 C). Totally in the wild & rugged backcountry of Mendocino National Forest, just a quarter mile easy hike from Twin Valley Road - Crabtree Hot Springs is free & open all year.

answ2. Hot springs at the surface can easily exist right up to the boiling point of water. Life forms known as extremophiles may live there, and studying these may bring industrial advances.

The Black smokers that are hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor may have temperatures well above 400oC. The pressure at these depths allow these temperatures to be generated. This can allow very energetic chemical reactions.

Some of the extremophiles at these dark depths live by obtaining energy from an iron and sulfur reaction.
