Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who made major contributions in the field of microbiology and in the advancement of the compound microscope. He is also referred to as the "Father of Microbiology." He was born in 1632 and died in 1723.
A type of drop glass microscope that was the most advanced microscope of it's time. With this microscope he observed many microorganisms such as protists, and small animals like rotifers, for the first time and made many detailed drawings that were sen to to the Royal Society. Unfortunately he let the technique of his microscope making die with him and this technique was nor rediscovered for many years to come.
