Any answers on why a 2000 blazer will not engage in 4 wheel hi or lo 2 wd works fine but 4 wheel light never stops blinking?

When this happens on my 1998 blazer, I disconnect the battery for a few hours and let the computer have to reboot then it works. 2wd to 4wd can be done with the vehicle moving less than 30 mph but to go into 4wd-lo i stop and put it into neutral then push the button and the same for coming out of 4wd-lo.
