Not entirely certain but Samuel de Champlain (founder of Quebec) and `discoverer' of Lake Champlain) married 12 year old Helene Boulle on 30th December 1610 in Paris - then returning with her to America - though the terms of the marriage were that it should not be consumated until Helene's 14th birthday. That may suggest 14 as a marriageable age of the period
