The Archduke was Franz Ferdinand heir apparent to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Him and his Wife Sophia were both killed as the were riding in a motor brigade in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. He was shot by a man named Gavrilo Princip, who was a member of the Black Hand, a Secret Serbia Terrorist group. The shooting and murder just gave reason for Austria to Attack Serbia. The reason for the shooting was a fear of even more change once Ferdinand had gained throne.
