Will Vortec 350 heads work on vortec 305 engine without any machine work?

Yes they will fit right on there with no machine work are problems.

How does Chevy vortec work?

The word 'vortec' is the name of the cylinder heads used in Vortec Model engines in the year 96'+ The engines that use the Vortec cylinder heads are the 4.3L Vortec, 5.0L Vortec, 5.7L Vortec, and 8.1L Vortec. They were only put on Gen I small blocks. If they are any other size Chevy engines and still retain the Vortec name then it's purely a marketing name, the same goes is it is later than a Gen I engine. For example the new 4.2L I6 from GM retains the name Vortec, but it does not actually use Vortec heads as these heads were only made for OHV engines, and the I6 is an OHC engine. The Vortec heads are based on the LT1 and LT4 head after they were discontinued along with their reverse flow cooling design. It is simply an effect made in the head similar to a vortex to better atomize the fuel and air intake charge when entering the combustion chamber, it is not a different type of motor.

Will regular 305 heads fit a 350 Vortec engine?

No 305 heads bolt up different then 350 heads If they are 305 vortec they will bolt up. However they do not have the same flow. The 305 vortec head has smaller runners, smaller valves and does not have the same heart shape combustion chamber. Now if you meant the older 305 heads onto a 350 vortce then no they will not. The vortec uses raised runners and the ports will not match. On top of it all the 5.7 vortec has more flow then any other production head. Placing a 305 head in its place would be going backwards.

Will a 89 350 bolt up to vortec heads?

Yes an 89 350 will bolt up to original Vortec heads. However, Vortec heads have an 8 bolt inatke manifold that is different from the standard 89' intake. Its worth mentioning that the intake manifolds changed in 1986. Prior to 1986 all intake manifolds for a sbc had 12 bolts. These 12 bolts all secured the intake to the head at the same angle. In 1986, or primarily in 1987 the intakes 4 center bolts were changed to a steeper angle. With the introduction of the vortec head came a new 8 bolt intake eliminating the 4 center bolts. If you plan to use Vortec heads on any V8 be it a 305,327,350 or bigger, you will need a Vortec intake manifold as well. You can also buy an after market intake to run a carburetor on a set of Vortec heads in place of the TBI injection.

How much cam lift can stock 5.7 vortex heads handle without any modification?

Stock valve springs on vortec heads are compatible with valve lift of up to 0.450".

How good are vortec heads?

You won't find better iron, readily available Chevy heads. Had my set for years. Had 1.60 stainless Ferrara Ex valves put in, so I could run nos. 150. Put in beehive springs good for 550 lift. Done deal. 350/vortec/ air gap/650 DP/HOT Chevy hyd roller. maybe 425 hp. And all the OLD Chevy stuff fits! Headers, water pump, power strng, distributors, Vortec heads and intake wil fit on any 350 Chevy. Best value for SBC of all time..

Would you get more horsepower out of your 1986 Chevy 350 if you changed the heads to vortex heads or older model 350 heads with a 3 angle cut and milled?

vortec heads will give you more power than any stock older heads but require a different intake and have small combustion chambers so make sure you dont get your cr to high and check for valves hitting the piston

Will 305 vortec heads fit on a 350?

Yes, but I don't know why you would want to use them on a 350. 305's are limited as far as valve size is concerned because their small bore causes clearance problems with the large valve heads... Larger valves will actually hit the block on a 305. Just about ANY 350 head is better than ANY 305 heads.

How do you know if your guy is enjoying the head you are giving him?

any heads good head

Are man you any good?

They are the worst team ever and might as well bury there heads in shame

Will 1997 350 vortec heads work on a 383?

Yes they will. The limiting factor of these heads are the valvesprings. You cant run anything over .470 lift unless you get a set of beehive Comp cam springs or get the valveguide machined to use a regular SBC Gen 1 spring. These heads stop flowing around .515 lift any more lift than that and it cant flow anymore through the head. These heads would work great on a 383 for towing.
