I don't understand why specifically 80% and why why specifically Muslims. The other how you define the sin and the sinner.

Generally speaking all people of the world could be viewed as sinners because:

  • some of them are denying God existance,
  • some others are not worshiping God as the one and only one God, with no partner, no son, no father, no companion, no associate, and no equivalence, and
  • all people could never be thankful enough to God on God blessings to them.

Accordingly, it is not relevant to Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddism, or any other religion for people to be sinners or not.

Another viewGiven that there are many different concepts of what a sin is, and differing opinions about whether Islam is a good or bad religion to which to belong, this would not be a question to which we could give a definitive answer, but I will say that being Muslim does not in itself make a person a sinner or a bad person, just as there are some Christians (or Jews, Buddhists, Hindus etc.) who are good people, and some who are not.
