Are Adderall and coffee together

Caffeine & Adderall have a synergistic effect when combined and the effects of both chemicals will be significantly emphasized. The addition of coffee with the adderall will definitely increase Adderall's effects of wakefulness, mood elevation, alertness, etc. But as great as that sounds, caffeine also potentiates the negative side effects of adderall, such as nervousness, insomnia, irritability, palpitations, rapid heart beat, dysphoria, etc. In fact, the combination of the 2 may exacerbate the negative side effects to such a point that the adderall's positive effects are diminished. Also, anyone with anxiety issues may want to stay away from the combination of the two since it will increase his or her anxiety. The 2 together can induce panic attacks in susceptible individuals. But honestly, from personal experience, a cup of coffee in the morning with adderall is OK but anymore than that and I tend to experience too many negative effects and actually LOSE focus on tasks rather than gain focus. As someone with anxiety issues, I am really careful about my caffeine intake the rest of the day (as in no more for me the rest day:) )

With all that said, if you are going to combine coffee and adderall together, start with 1/2 a cup and wait an hour and see how it makes you feel. If you are nervous and jittery and anxious, then perhaps you should not combine the 2. Just start slow and see if it works OK for you. I know people that can drink all the caffeine they want on their adderall and are just fine and then I know others that can not have any caffeine at all. Just be smart about it:)

Also studies have show that coffee effects the potency of adderall causing the body to simply flush adderall out of your system. Others studies have shown that people with add or adhd who drink coffee tend to multi task or tend to notice that symptoms of add or adhd tend to be more noticeable. Causing you to be awake but not focused.

Adderall is an amphetamine- it blocks the reuptake of dopamine (heavily implicated in the brain's 'reward' pathway) in the synaptic cleft so that the neurotransmitter's effects are prolonged- causing increased energy and hyper-elation, while caffeine inhibits endogenous adenosine receptors, which are known to be inhibitory to the nervous system. Adenosine collects as a metabolic byproduct from ATP degradation and increases with prolonged wakefulness. Since caffeine binds to an inhibitory receptor that binds to adenosine normally, it circumvents the naturally increasing amount of adenosine during the day (a part of your sleep wake cycle). Since these two very different pathways effect the nervous systems via two different methods, the combination of the drugs will have a greater range of effects. Effects are also variant on the amount of sleep one has had and the time of day the combination is ingested.

Adderall and coffee are both stimulants. I have been on Adderall for many years and I drink coffee almost every day. If your body is sensitive to caffeine, then I would avoid combining the two. In general though, it's safe to mix them.
