Quick comparison between USA and Canada. Canadians pay much higher gasoline, cigarette, beer and liquor taxes. In addition, mortgage interest payments are not tax-deductible in Canada.

My information is that Australians and New Zealanders are more heavily taxed.

Thus, it is much harder to save money for home ownership, retirement etc.

In the USA the cost-of-living is much lower, if you keep health costs out of the equation.
