Australians are beginning to lose their cultural identity to the influence of American television. Many people say, "Australia doesn't have a cultural identity" and that is the point exactly. A century ago, Australia was an intensely nationalistic, passionate country with its own unique "bush" or "outback" identity, fuelled by stories of bushman and swagmen. In modern times, younger Australians are quick to embrace the inlfuence of US teen musicals and romance shows, with their ethics and ideals, rather than retaining the concepts of loyalty and mateship intrinsic to Australia's own history.
