I am going to have to say no. While I love Bernese Mountain Dogs, they are big and playful and need room to run and use the energy that these dogs have.

If you already have the dog and don't plan on spending a long period of time in an apartment I wouldn't get rid of the dog. If you are going to be there for a while, I would consider finding a new home for your dog.

NO. Bernese are VERY people oriented dogs and need to be where you are. If you are not the kind of person who wants your dog with you then this is not the breed for you. If you like having a furry shadow who will sit on your feet and put a big head on your lap (or laptop, or book etc) for attention then you should start researching this wonderful breed.

What does a bernese mountain dog eat?

Bernese Mountain Dogs should be fed regular dog food like any other breed of Dog. I feed my Dogs of Wagg Complete, but any good quality dog food will do. Royal Canin makes specialist food for large breeds such as Bernese Mountain Dogs, such as ''Giant Junior'', ''Giant Puppy'' and ''Giant Adult''.

Do Bernese Mountain Dogs have webbed feet?

This is not a desirable trait for this breed to have (according to the Breed Standard) and the Bernese Mountain Dog should have feet that are ''short, round and compact''. Breeds such as the Labrador Retriever and the Newfoundland are bred to have webbed feet.

Are bernese mountain dogs aggressive?

yes they get along well with other dogs As with all dogs, for them to get along, it is important that they are socialised with other dogs throughout their puppyhood. This allows them to learn the dog body language. The first place they learn this is from their mother, and the first 8 weeks are critical for this. Bringing friendly dogs to their home while they are still young helps them to realise that visiting dogs can be friends, not a territory challenge. Taking them out to parks to meet other dogs on neutral territory is also important. The more any dog meets other dogs the less excited it will be and the more likely to behave. Remember, as you are their pack leader, they will take their cue from you as to how to behave. So relax and they will too.

Do Bernese mountain dogs eat other animals?

I don't know they may eat birds or chickens. You could ask your friends or neighbors for answers. I don't know if I helped but good luck! :)

What is the breed history of the Bernese Mountain Dog?

The Bernese Mountain dog originated in the Swiss mountains, Switzerland. Many 18th century paintings show dogs which looked just like the Bernese type dog. The breed was named for the Canton of Bern. They were working dogs particularly good at draft work, pulling carts to market. They also were used to drive dairy cattle, to watch over the farm and as a companion to the farmers. By the end of the 19th century many other working dogs were being imported to Switzerland, which brought the numbers of the Bernese down as workers began to use other types of dogs. An effort was made by a group of people including Professor Albert Heim and Franz Schertenleib to preserve the breed. They went around finding what remaining dogs they could in order to stabilize the Bernese. Today the breed makes a wonderful companion and they still to this day enjoy whatever draft work you can give them. The breeds talents are tracking, herding, watch, guarding, search & rescue, carting, and competitive obedience.
