I am going to have to say no. While I love Bernese Mountain Dogs, they are big and playful and need room to run and use the energy that these dogs have.
If you already have the dog and don't plan on spending a long period of time in an apartment I wouldn't get rid of the dog. If you are going to be there for a while, I would consider finding a new home for your dog.

∙ 12y agoNO. Bernese are VERY people oriented dogs and need to be where you are. If you are not the kind of person who wants your dog with you then this is not the breed for you. If you like having a furry shadow who will sit on your feet and put a big head on your lap (or laptop, or book etc) for attention then you should start researching this wonderful breed.

yes they get along well with other dogs As with all dogs, for them to get along, it is important that they are socialised with other dogs throughout their puppyhood. This allows them to learn the dog body language. The first place they learn this is from their mother, and the first 8 weeks are critical for this. Bringing friendly dogs to their home while they are still young helps them to realise that visiting dogs can be friends, not a territory challenge. Taking them out to parks to meet other dogs on neutral territory is also important. The more any dog meets other dogs the less excited it will be and the more likely to behave. Remember, as you are their pack leader, they will take their cue from you as to how to behave. So relax and they will too.

They went around finding what remaining dogs they could in order to stabilize the Bernese. Today the breed makes a wonderful companion and they still to this day enjoy whatever draft work you can give them. The breeds talents are tracking, herding, watch, guarding, search & rescue, carting, and competitive obedience.
