Not are all. Some are osteocytes if they are not active. Other are active and they are called osteoblasts if they are busy breaking down bone and osteoclasts if they are building bone. These to are always balancing out one another out. When we age they sort of get out of balance and our bones become thin or brittle.

How is a bone similar to other living tissues?

Bone is not just similar to living tissue; it actually is living. It is classified as a connective tissue. The living cells in bone are called osteocytes. The osteocytes are surrounded by a hard matrix of calcium and phosphate called hydroxyapatite.

What is the column of the bone?

The shaft or long, main part of a long bone is called the diaphysis. There are also columns within compact bones called central (Haversian) canals through which blood vessels and nerves travel to supply blood and innervation to the bone cells (osteocytes).

Explain how bone cells embedded in a solid ground substance obtain nutrients and eliminate waste?

Osteocytes are mature bone cells surrounded by matrix which solid bone cell ground substances attach to. Bone cells are in the proximity of blood vessels, just like any other cell in the body. Bones only have cells in their growth areas and in the bone marrow, where blood cells are also produced.

Where do you find osteoblasts in growing bone?

The majority of the bone you see is actually extracellular matrix but dispersed within it are cells called osteoblasts. These are usually either individual cells or in very small groups but they are not in any specific locations within the bone.

What elements are required by body for proper bone formation?

Well, bones are made of mineral salts, collagen fibers, and osteocytes (bone cells). But they also need calcium and other things to stay strong

If There are five main types of bone cells in bone tissue what they are?

. Osteogenic cells respond to traumas, such as fractures, by giving rise to bone-forming cells and bone-destroying cells. Osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) synthesize and secrete unmineralized ground substance and are found in areas of high metabolism within the bone. Osteocytes are mature bone cells made from osteoblasts that have made bone tissue around themselves. These cells maintain healthy bone tissue by secreting enzymes and controlling the bone mineral content; they also control the calcium release from the bone tissue to the blood. Osteoclasts are large cells that break down bone tissue. They are very important to bone growth, healing, and remodeling. The last type of cells are bone-lining cells. These are made from osteoblasts along the surface of most bones in an adult. Bone-lining cells are thought to regulate the movement of calcium and phosphate into and out of the bone.http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/biology/humananatomy/skeletal/cells.htmlholy cow ur good. thanx, thisll help me on my project. yahoo!

Does a bone cell have organelles?

There are three special types of cells found only in bone. They are: Osteoclasts , which are large cells the dissolve the bone. They originate in the bone marrow and are related to white blood cells and are found on the surface of the bone mineral next to dissolving bone. Osteoblasts, which form new bone. Originating in the bone marrow, they have one nucleus. They work in teams to build bone from bone collagen and other protein. They also control calcium and mineral deposition, and are found on the surface of new bone. When they have finished filling in a cavity, they become flat and line the surface of the bone. They regulate passage of calcium into and out of bone. In addition, they respond to hormones by making special proteins that activate the osteoclasts. Osteocytes, which are cells inside the bone. Osteoclasts and osteoblasts may turn into osteocytes white new bone is being formed, and then osteocytes get surrounded by new bone. Osteocytes send out long branches that connect to other osteocytes. They can sense pressures or cracks in bone and help direct where osteoclasts dissolve bone.

Is this statement true or false bone cells are also called?

True

What is the functional unit of bone?

The osteon is the structural unit of compact bone. Haversian system is a microscopic, structural unit of compact bone also called the osteon. The osteons are arranged in multiple layers or rings called concentric lamella.
