CD drivers and DVD drivers are both equally common. CD drives is a drive that reads a compact disc and that is connected to an audio system. A DVD drive is an optical disc storage media format.
One can buy dvd cd drives online through sites such as Amazon and eBay. Stores like Staples and Best Buy also sell dvd cd drives. Target and Sears, some locations, also sell dvd cd drives.
CD & DVD are examples of Secondary Storage Devices.
A DVD holds around six times as much as a CD. Also, some USB drives and almost all hard drives hold WAY more than a CD.
CD & DVD burners are optical drives that can write data to CDs or DVDs.
It is when a storage device is removed from a computer. Examples of common storage devices that are often removed from computers today are... - solid state USB devices (aka jump drives or thumb drives) - solid state storage cards (aka SD cards) - CD/DVD recordable or rewritable media (aka CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+-R, etc.) - hard disk drives (aka hard drives, HDDs, disk drives)
A CD holds about 700 MB. A DVD holds about 4.7 GB, or more for a dual-layer and/or double-sided DVD. You can now get USB thumb drives with capacity greater than a DVD.
Computers used to have separate drives for putting in a CD and Playing a DVD. Now, especially with Laptops, Most Computers and Laptops have a multifunction unit in which both DVD'S and CD'S can be read, but again, some computers still do have separate drives, purely because the performance is better, e.g. A CD may upload better onto iTunes for example in A CD drive rather than a CD/DVD drive.
Mine has 1 but my system can hold up to 4 DVD drives at once
The drives are normally the same CD and DVD is the same drive, and if not it says it on the front of the drive
There are drives that are somewhat quieter than others, but this is more a function of speed. The slower the drives spins, the quiter it is. LG, ASUS, and Lightscribe have some noted near silent drives.
The two types of CD-ROM are DVD&CD drives
Target carries Sony drives, which are more expensive, but easily returned to Target if they're defective.
