How should a Catholic reply to the question, "Have you been saved?"
"A: This question is answered in our tract Assurance of Salvation? , which suggests the following reply:
As The Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5-8), but I'm also being saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9-10, 1 Cor. 3:12-15). Like the Apostle Paul, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11-13).
*Yes of course they do i am catholic and most catholic people don't even think about that as long as we treat others with respect and love god we will all go to heaven no matter what religion unless you are so reallly weird one like devil worshiping. And we don't look at it as Protestant, one religion , Catholicism, one religion, Orthodox , one religion.
*We look at it as we we are all Christians and it doesn't matter what section you are. Whoever wrote this may not be knowledgeable about what the Pope believes and teaches in his infallible way.
*I am not Catholic, but I am pretty sure that the Pope says that a person must be baptized by a Catholic priest in order to be saved and that people who willfully refuse to accept the authority of the Catholic church can never be admitted into the fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ.
You are "pretty sure"? How about actually looking at "what the Pope says"? And "in his infallible way?" Do you even know what that means?
I am a Protestant, but at least I know how to use the Internet to actually look up what the Pope says. Not that the current pope needs to say anything about it, anyway. It's been decided years ago. Geez.
Here's a real answer to this question that isn't just a stupid knee-jerk reaction. It's a direct quote from the second Vatican council of 1965:
Those belong to it who invoke the Triune God and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, doing this not merely as individuals but also as corporate bodies. For almost everyone regards the body in which he has heard the Gospel as his Church and indeed, God's Church. All however, though in different ways, long for the one visible Church of God, a Church truly universal and set forth into the world that the world may be converted to the Gospel and so be saved, to the glory of God.
The Catholic Church understands that when you become a Christian (defined by invoking God as Triune and confessing Christ as Lord and Savior), you will naturally be drawn to your own "denomination," but that we should all be hoping and praying for unity among us all, for the sake of the rest of the world.Sassy comments about the pope aren't going to move us in that direction.
no you just have to have the christain faith and ask god for forgiveness then you can say you were saved by god the father
Catholics believe that only catholics can get to heaven.
Catholics believe the pope is the vicar of Christ on earth, Lutherans do not. Catholics believe they are saved by faith and good works. Lutherans believe they are saved by faith alone. Catholics believe in Purgatory, Lutherans do not.
The Catholic Church does teach Catholics about being saved. To be saved, one must be in a state of grace, free from "mortal" sin (which cuts off one's friendship with God). The Catholic Church teaches that once you have been saved, you can lose your salvation by falling into a state of mortal sin, but also that even mortal sin can be forgiven, and salvation can be restored.
Luther said we are saved by faith alone. The Catholic Church teaches we are saved by faith and good works.
Well, both Martin Luther and the Catholics believed that salvation came from the grace of God. Martin luther believed that one was saved though faith alone. The Catholics believe that one is saved through both faith and good works.
I think so there is only a slight difference in some of their beliefs not the core beliefs.
.Catholic AnswerYes, that was one of the problems.
He would be the head of the church. He was often time called pope which in Latin means father. He would take your request to be saved and save you himself. This is what the Catholics do when you get saved but Christians see it a different way.
Supposedly not (to Catholics) . An excommunicated person can always be forgiven in the sacrament of Reconciliation. Short of that, if truly sorry for the offenses committed, the final judge is God. We live in the hope that all are saved.
Luther's main beleifs are written in the 95-Theses.
Catholics believe in the hope of God's mercy that babies who die without baptism will be with God in heaven. Catholics believe that the true church of Christ is the Catholic Church, it also believes that elements of the true church subsist in other churches and believes in the hope that all are saved regardless of faith or baptism if they live a life of goodness in accordance with their beliefs and do not reject God or deliberately turn away from God.
