I recommend getting a dwarf hamster because dwarf hamsters are less territorial and most of the time can be kept together in the same cage. If you put two Syrian hamsters together they will fight to the death.
Yes. Bigger hamsters live longer.

Generally speaking it depends on how you treat your hamster. If their cage is always clean, they have a good hygene, and they are fed well, they will live longer. Hamsters live up from 2-3 years but if they are very well taken care of, they can live up to 5 years.
Of course! Dwarf hamsters can live together with other dwarf hamsters and long-term cage mates eat, play, and sleep together for life.
Syrian hamsters can't even live with other Syrian hamsters. They like to be alone.

I disagree with the answer above, from both personal and professional experience. Dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters can both live with other hamsters. However, the best chance of getting any two hamsters to get along, (and I would never recommend keeping more then two together) is to get two female litter-mates (hard to do in a pet store, since new shipments are mixed with existing stock) and even then, be prepared to watch them fairly closely the first few weeks together and separate them if you see any fighting or any injuries. Two males will always be fighting over territory, one male and one female will almost always end with an injured, pregnant female.
