Consumers know that GMO foods are being sold to them in the United States. They also know that any foods that have corn, soy, canola, and papayas in them are very likely to have GMOs in them. They can also conclude that companies that spend lots of money (sometimes half a million dollars and more) to defeat GMO labeling laws are using GMO ingredients in their processed foods. As for foods that contain GMOs being sold without informing the consumers, consumers can only use common sense and inferences to know what foods are likely to contain GMOs. Companies do not disclose which of their products contain GMOs.

In many countries, including the UK, GMO foods are labeled. In the United States, they are not labeled, and any attempts by the states to do so are hotly contested by Monsanto and other biotech corporations, major food companies, etc.

Why should all genetically engineered foods be labeled?

All genetically modified should be labeled so consumers can make their own decision as to whether or not to purchase them.

Explain why you are for or against requiring labels indicating the use of genetically modified components in any food item?

Many people are for labeling genetically modified meats. With a label on the meat, many people are able to choose whether they want to purchase the meat or not.

What is transgenic technology?

Transgenic plants are plants in which DNA from another species has been introduced into the plant's genome.

Why is genetically modified food harmful?

It is not known conclusively whether GMO food is harmful. Many claim that science shows that it is safe and others claim that anecdotal evidence (non study) suggests it is not safe and could be harmful to the environment.

Are buttered noodles genetically modified?

It depends on whether the ingredients used to make the noodles were genetically engineered. At the current time (December 2013), there is no way to know for sure because GMO ingredients are not labeled as such on foods in the United States. The chances of the noodles having GMO ingredients is greatly reduced if the food is labeled 100% organic.

What is the study of how food interacts with genes?

The term nutrigenomics refers the how genes determine nutritional requirements. Food biotechnology refers to the study of food and whether it can be genetically modified.

What percent of US corn is genetically modified?

First you must specify whether you mean GM foods that are modified by gene replacement in the lab or by selection and hybridization. Because of the stigma given GMO's by pseudo scientists there are very few directly grown, non processed GM foods. Almost all soybeans grown in the US are GMO and most of the corn and canola. Sweet corn, however, is not GM, but it's a hybrid. Growers must use herbicides to control weeds because there is no GM seed to do it.

Are genetically modified foods really safe to eat?

The safety of genetically modified foods is not known. Some say studies show it is safe, but there are also studies that show it may not be safe. There is anecdotal evidence, such as doctors recommending that their patients stop eating foods that are genetically engineered and their health improving.

Why might people want genetically engineered food to be labeled?

Consumers want to have the tools necessary to choose for themselves whether or not to buy and eat GMO foods. Labeling is the only thing that will show them what foods do and do not contain GMOs, or at least so they think. In reality, cross pollination of GMO crops with non-GMO crops has resulted in almost all food types that have been genetically modified (corn, soybeans, papayas, canola, possibly wheat, sugar beats, sweet corn, and others), even ones labeled Non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project and organically grown crops, having at least a small percentage of GMOs.

How equation of motion are modified for freely falling objects?

The equation of motion is not modified. Net force = mass x acceleration, whether freely falling or not.

What effect does eating GMO food on your genes?

Some argue that genetically modified food has no effects on human or animal genes. They also argue that GMO foods are the same as any other foods and have no negative health effects at all. Others argue that they might cause changes to our genes, and that they do cause changes to the flora in our intestines, possible sterilization, and other health issues. The FDA has declared then to be "substantially equivalent" to non GMO foods. In reality, we just do not know what effects genetically modified food have on our health or our genes.

Why organic foods are better than conventinal foods?

Supposedly they are grown without chemicals or pesticides. There is also the issue of genetically modified foods, which no one even knows yet whether or not they are bad for you. There have been some studies on rats that were fed GMO food and ended up dead. Organic is non-GMO.
