The threats of GMO food is the long term effects it will have on nature. E.g genetically modified genes might spread into nature, and affect different ecosystems negatively. It's very complicated and no one knows exactly what effect GMO products will have.

∙ 9y agoThere is no proof that GMO foods are unsafe, but many question their safety based on several factors. Though there are 2000+ scientific studies that some claim show GMO food is safe, many question whether a large percentage of those studies were heavily influenced by the makers of the GMOs and if they are reliable. Some doctors claim that when their patients stop eating GMO foods, their health improves.
There is also the factor of whether they are safe for the environment, especially over an extended period of time. It is not known what their affect on the environment will be.

I can: Though GMO foods are widely grown in the United States and some other countries, they are not widely accepted by the consumer. Reasons for this vary. Many do not accept the claim that foods made from GMOs are safe. Another concern is environmental harm. There are some studies that back up certain concerns of the safety of consuming GMO foods and environmental harm, either from the modifications or the increased use of pesticides on GMO crops. The concerns are not likely to be resolved any time soon.
