Depends on the rider. They are know to be very gentle, but they are also normally very atheletic.
Thoroughbreds, and warmbloods such as Hanoverians, and Oldenburgs, are some of the more common jumping breeds. In the link below, you can see what is ideal in a jumping horse.
Quarterhorses are generally the best for first time horse owners. But it all depends on the horse. They are generally mellow and easy keepers (don't require much of special supplements, going lame easy, ect.) They are very sturdy.
Both, if you get a good mare, you've got a brilliant one.. If you get a good gelding, it's the same.. Be warned.. Once a mare says "I'm not doing it anymore".. She means it!
when you are getting your first horse it is very important that the horse has a good temperament, one that does not spook or bite and is clam and does not care very much about things, as to ensure safety to the owners and rider especially if they do not know a lot about horses. Horses with a high temperament can be a lot of work and need a very confidant person to handle them.
Any breed can be a good first horse so long as the rider and horse get along and match each others skills.
Grass would be good

Well I'm not quite sure what you are getting at but to get it done you go to the Horse Dentists. I would recommend asking other horse owners what a good one is if you want to get your horse done. Dentistry work can ruin your horses mouth if not done properly and comfortable for the horse.
i think it would teach the kid to care
There is no certain breed of horse that would be ideal for a first time horse owner. The best type of horse a first time buyer should look for is one that has some experience, is tempermental and easy to control and handle.
