Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called "Mormons") are baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ and believe that by doing so they take on his name and become official representatives of him. However, most other Christian Churches (Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox) do not consider this baptism valid and require someone baptized a Mormon to be re-baptized if they convert.

No. Because the Mormon Church has invented a different Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit), then the Trinity revealed in Holy Scripture. When a Mormon is baptized he is being baptized in the name of a imaginary "Jesus" therefore, his baptism has no affect.

Christology is the issue. Mormons have a different Godhead than do other Christians (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox). As noted above, the Mormon Church invented a new Jesus during the early parts of the nineteenth century a Jesus that nobody had ever heard of before. Traditional Christianity confesses that God is three persons in one God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The LDS Church believes that there are three persons and three gods in the Holy Trinity.

The LDS Church teaches that all True Mormons have the chance of becoming a "God". This notion is flatly rejected by all other Christian groups.

Mormons believe that they are the only True Christians, whereas most other Christian groups would only recognize that a True Christian is one who has been baptized "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit".

I believe that the Catholic Church, Pope John Paul II has issued a formal decree on this matter several years ago, confirming that members of the LDS Church are not Christians because of the fact that they do not worship the God of The Bible (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), one God in three persons.

Yes, most definitely it is Christian baptism. As the full name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It holds Christ as the head of the church, and all baptisms are performed in Christs name. I would dare to say that it is the most Christian church upon the face of the earth. The argument set out in the previous answer has no bearing upon the question.

The answer to the question depends entirely upon your personal convictions. Mormons consider themselves Christians and so do many sociologists, but many other people are very protective of the label Christian and believe it should not be applied to groups which don't believe certain things about Jesus Christ.

Mormons believe in Jesus Christ as the only name under heaven given to man, whereby they can be saved. They believe their church to be a Restorationist Christian denomination. This means that they are not Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox, but that Jesus Christ restored his church to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. They believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind. They believe that He suffered and died so that we might be saved and return to live with God, the Father. Pictures of Christ adorn their church walls, prayers are said in the name of Christ, the communion or sacrament of the Lord's supper is performed nearly every week, and sermons and lessons often focus on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Mormons do not believe in the Holy Trinity. Mormons believe that The Father and The Son (Jesus Christ) have separate, glorified bodies of flesh and bone. They believe them to be One in purpose, but not just one God.

Mormons do not believe the Bible to be the infallible Word of God. Mormons believe in the Bible as far as it is translated correctly. They also believe in other scriptures and in continuing revelation.

Yes. To become an official member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) one must be baptized. Baptism is by immersion in water by a man who has been given priesthood authority in the Church. Converts who were previously baptized into another Christian church must be baptized again to become members of the 'Mormon' Church.
