For the majority of plants yes. For parasitic and epiphytic plants, no.

Do potatoes grow above the soil?

The potato tubers (potatoes) grow below the ground, but most of the potato plant (leaves etc.) grows above ground.

Where most plant root systems found?

In the ground at the base of the plant, radiating outwards in all directions. Some plants have a surface root system whilst others, normally found in drier environments or they have a need for stability, send down deep tap-roots for nutrients. In the ground

Does the stem grow above or below the ground?

Roots grow down, into the soil and stems have leaves on them which need sunlight to grow so therefore they grow up out of the soil.

Why are the root systems of most plants as large or larger than above ground plant parts?

Most root systems of most plants are larger than the above parts of the plant because the roots are trying to reach the water underground. Some roots that are very far from a water source have to have there roots go very far spread out and also very deep to get water. Some trees have roots that actually exceed the water table!

What is ground tissue?

Ok well first of all if you are looking for a simple answer don't look here!! A plant is made up of three different kinds of tissue systems, dermal, ground, and vascular. Ground tissue is surrounded by the dermal tissue, which makes up the outer layers of a plant, and ground tissue is what makes up a majority of the inside of a plant. Ground tissue will provide support for the plant and it also stores materials in the roots and stems. Ground tissue in leaves are packed with chloroplasts, which is where the photosynthesis process makes nutrients for the plant. The ground tissue system consists of all three of the simple tissues: parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma tissue. Parenchyma is the most common tissue of the three and in cacti, the ground tissue contains numerous parenchyma cells which store water. Although those parenchyma cells store water, rigid parenchyma actually make up most of ground tissue in cacti spines.

What vascular tissue?

The vascular tissue system is one of three tissue systems that make up a plant, the other two tissue systems or ground and dermal, with dermal tissue being the outer layer and the ground tissue making up most of the inside of a plant. Vascular tissue is surrounded by ground tissue, but vascular tissue doesn't make up much of the inside of a plant, this is because vascular tissue transports water, mineral nutrient , and organic compounds, to all parts of a plant. Plants don't depend entirely on the vascular tissue system for transportation, the plants themselves can transport any necessary fluids and/or nutrients throughout their systems. A plant's vascular system is composed of two networks of hollow tubes, similar to our veins and arteries. Each network consists of a different type of vascular tissue that works to move different resources throughout the plant. These vascular tissues would be the tissues known as xylem and phloem.

How did people find plants in the ground?

Most plants have roots in the ground. Roots anchor the plant. The roots also provide water and minerals to the plant. People have observed this since cave man times.

Are grains well rooted to the ground?

Grains are seeds. Cereal crops, which is what you are likely referring to, are indeed rooted well enough to the ground to support themselves. However, their roots are typically shallow, with most of the root biomass extending no more than 15 to 30 cm (6 to 12 inches) below ground, with very little root biomass more than 4 feet (more, depending on the plant height) below the surface.

What field of science is a power plant most closely related to?

A power plant is most closely related to the field of engineering, particularly in the subfield of energy engineering or power systems engineering. These disciplines focus on the design, construction, and operation of systems that generate and distribute power.
