Simple answer is no they are not normally vicious to other species of fish and can be kept in a community aquarium.
Thank you for your help, :)!
The best candidates are Betta fish and Paradise Gouramis
Angelfish Discus Koi Neon tetra Guppies Paradise fish Swordtails Gouramis Barbs Betta fish
Paradise fish should never be in a situation where it meets a Goldfish. The Paradise fish is a tropical fish and needs its water over 65F. The Goldfish is a coldwater fish and needs its water below 65F. Ergo they need different temperatures and so should not be kept together. Thanks for you help!! :)
no. fish can only mate with fish of the same species. Gouramis mate with gouramis and platys mate with platys.
Gouramis aren't really great fish to have together unless they have room to move around (e.g. at least 5 gallons per fish). Your tank is MUCH too small to have two gouramis, they're fighting for territory. If you don't want to return one to the fish store, then you should definitly just get a bigger tank. Unless you have dwarf gouramis, you should have them in at least 20 gallons. It also depends on what kind of gouramis you have. Some are more social and are more likely to school (dwarf gouramis, pearl gouramis) whereas others prefer to be top dog (opaline gouramis, blue gouramis). Good luck!
Labyrinth fish such as gouramis and betas.
I have a blue gourami with my gold
Surprisenly I had 2 male betta in the same 150 gal tank with other fish and had no problems. Other fish included gouramis, tetras, angels, cory cats
The paradise gourami, scientifically known as Macropodus opercularis, is a colorful freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in slow-moving waters and rice paddies. They are known for their vibrant colors and unique elongated fins, making them popular in aquariums. Paradise gouramis are relatively peaceful and can coexist with other fish, though males can be territorial during breeding. They thrive in well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots and prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions.
just some background on what i was thinking. i was thinking 2 sparkiling gouramis, 2 licorice gouramis and 3-4 panda Cory catfish. would these work? if not can you suggest other options. i realy want to get sparkiling gouramis, so if you could suggest other tankmates for it if the ones i suggest don't work. thanks
Not necessarily. A Betta is a "Labyrinth fish" but all Labyrinth fish are not Bettas. All the Gouramis are Labyrinth fish too.
small tetras, bottom-feeding catfish(NOT CHINESE ALGAE EATERS) and other live-bearers,
