Yes, they are allowed to be in a political party. They are allowed to be active in the party as well. They can support a candidate through contributions, volunteer work etc. However, they are not allowed to use their status as military officers to promote a candidate or a political agenda. They are not allowed to go to meetings and rallys in uniform or to otherwise leverage their position for political purposes. Bottom line, they have to be careful to keep their military status separate from their political activities.

What caused the Brazilian government to open up Brazil's political system?

We live in a "military dictatorship" from 1964 to 1985, where we had a two-party system (ie, there were only two political parties) where we were ruled by candidates chosen by the military that we would have no right to exercise our citizenship. But in 1979, began to occur some changes that allowed the return of democratic freedom of our nation. The two-party system (only two parties) gave way to political reform that allowed the creation of more parties within the country In 1988 was established in the constitution the right to direct vote in 1989 and had our first opportunity to exercise our freedom of expression through direct elections.

As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, Myanmar has numerous political parties, with estimates ranging from over 90 to more than 100. The political landscape is highly fragmented, with parties representing various ethnic groups, ideologies, and interests. The National League for Democracy (NLD) is one of the most prominent parties, but the political situation remains fluid, especially following the military coup in February 2021.
