Try a different set of pads. I've had good luck with Wagner "Thermo Quite" brake pads on the front of our fleet trucks.

As long as you ask for OEM quality brake pads you will have quality. EBC, Wagner, & Brembo all make excellent pads.
Wearever brake pads are sold at Parts America and Advance Auto Parts. They are made by Wagner, hope this helps. I'm not sure that they are made by Wagner. Foster makes the Wearever rotors. But Wagner is owned by Federal Mogul and I'm pretty sure they are not the manufacturer of wearever pads.
Generally, brake pads should be changed between 20,000 and 180,000 miles. This depends on the brand of the brake pads, and the persons driving habits.
GM brake pads are a good way to go but they are really no different than any other brand of brake pad. They all do the same thing. I am sure you could get the safety rating from an auto parts store.

Sometimes you can git rid of that noise by just changing the brake pads to a different brand or style and sometimes you need to resurface or replace the brake rotors and brake pads. Be sure the calipers slides and caliper pistons move freely. Some brake pads require shims and/or anti-squeal adhesive/lubricants. Consult your local auto parts store as to what they recommend for their brand of brake pads.
