The Right Questions to Ask Your Coast Guard Recruiter?

So you’re thinking about joining the Coast Guard. You like the idea of protecting America’s coastline from invaders, drugs and illegal immigrants, and search and rescue missions are the height of heroism to you. You want to be a part of it. The first step in achieving this goal is to take the ASVAB, a skills-assessment test that will point out your strengths and weaknesses. Your score will determine what military jobs you’re eligible for. You can access ASVAB practice tests as well as a full explanation of the ASVAB’s purpose online at www.military.com/ASVAB. Then you need to see a Coast Guard recruiter. He’ll be able to answer your questions, help you to decide if his branch of the military is right for you and get you where you want to be. This is the time to be assertive. Ask questions. Coast Guard recruiters want you to join. It’s their job to sweeten the pot enough to get you in the door, because the military needs people, now more than ever. This crucial step is what will get you the job you want, the bonus you want and the location you want. Get the job. Whether or not you get the job you want will depend upon your test scores. If you did really well, the field is open to you. Tell the military recruiters that you’re interested in this particular job - whether it’s being a mechanic, working in housing or being a yeoman - and ask how you can be assured of getting that position. Get the money. The military doesn’t have any leeway when it comes to salary. You get paid what your level gets paid, and that’s it. However, base pay differs from state to state in order to meet the cost of living in that state. Also, you may qualify for a sign-on bonus. Ask questions about the bonus: how much the military is currently offering, when you’ll get it and whether or not it will be a lump sum. Bonuses are generally split up over several years of your enlistment and are taxed quite heavily. Find out about this first so you’re not surprised. Get the location. Have you always dreamed of going to California? Get it in writing. If the recruiter is serious about getting you in - and, unless your scores were bad, he is - he’ll work with you.

Im due to have rotater cup surgery. Will this have any affect on me being able to join the Army and will my shoulder ever be the same as it once was?

Yes, but if you score high enough on your ASVAB your recruiter can recommend you to his superiors and waivers can be issued for a lot of medical conditions. I am trying to become a Marine and I have had a heart operation done, but since I scored high on my test they are willing to work with me on my health issues. If you want it bad enough, don't let them tell you no. As for the second part of your question, I don't know. Just take it easy until you are cleared by your doc because you don't want to screw it up any more than it already is and definitely ruin your chances of being able to join up.

How to Become an MP in the Army Reserve?

It is both a challenging and a rewarding experience to become a Military Police Officer, or an MP, within the United States Army. It requires that you enlist for either four, six or eight years, and it also requires that you take on at least six months of training as soon as you begin your career. The remainder of your career is to be spent as a Military Police Officer who serves your country. During your enlistment, you will then have to undergo some more training courses for refreshing your memory, just to ensure you still have the skills to use. Once you have initially enlisted, you may later choose to reenlist for another term of your service, or, alternatively, you can move on to become an officer under civilian law enforcement.Finish high school in order to obtain your diploma certifying your graduation, or opt to receive your GED by way of examination instead.Locate your nearest United States Army Reserve recruiter and request information with regards to enlisting into the services offered by the Army Reserve.Undergo the process of the local Military Entrance Process Station, otherwise referred to as the MEPS. Additionally, you will have to take the exam for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, also known as the ASVAB exam, in order to figure out what your qualifications are with regards to available military jobs. From there, you will then need to take a physical examination by the military so that you can ensure you are in the proper physical fitness to serve within the United States military.Attend training. You will have to undergo Basic Combat Training under the United States Army to learn the most basic of skills that you must know to succeed as a soldier. AIT, or Advanced Individual Training, will offer training of the skills that are required to succeed as an MP upon your return to your unit in the Army Reserve.Function as a Military Police Officer in your unit for the Army Reserve upon your return. Is the questions out of the book ASVAB for dummies on the actual ASVAB?

None of the practice test questions you'll find in study guides or online are from the actual test. The military makes it very clear what format and type of questions are on the test so the creators of practice tests take that information and create their own questions that mimic those found on the actual test. So, they're good for studying but they're not the questions on the actual ASVAB.

High school students can take the student ASVAB at their schools. The score is not used by the military. The ASVAB for enlistment is given at the MEPS, or you can arrange a CAT ASVAB through a recruiter.
