Scoliosis is not considered chronic or acute based on severity of the curve. Chronic implies long term, so if you have scoliosis that is untreated then it is chronic. If you have a functional scoliosis that is improved through conservative treatment, or severe structural scoliosis that is improved through surgery, then it is no longer chronic.
Of course, the more severe the scoliosis at the start, the less likely it is to be "fixed" and thus the more likely it is to become chronic.
If you have spina bifida, congenital deformation of the vertebrae, or muscular dystrophy, those conditions can lead to scoliosis. Over 80% of scoliosis cases are idiopathic though, which means that know one really knows why some people develop scoliosis. You're more likely to get idiopathic scoliosis if you have a familiar member with scoliosis.
Scoliosis is really an opinion on if it is rare or common. I can answer that 2-3% of people HAVE curves of over 20*, i have scoliosis...so i find it pretty common that 2-3 percent have it...but i think that more people should know what it is.
I don't think anything can really cause scoliosis. It runs in the family, so you'd most likely be born with it, or grow into it as you get older. Wouldn't hurt to have your doctor check it out though. My doctor could tell just by looking at me that I had scoliosis.
Scoliosis can worsen if it isn't taken care of properly. Go to your doctor and talk to him/her about physical therapy, and if your condition is really bad, maybe a brace for your back will help.
It really depends on how bad the scoliosis is. It could restrict you on some sport activities but I think the best way to find out would be to ask your doctor because everyones situation is different.
It can occur in more than one way:You can be born with it, possibly geneticYou can have an injury or illness that damages your spineOsteoporosisIt may be abnormal nerves or muscles pulling on your spineThere may be no known direct cause that can be proven
Not really, it is considered a master quest, but some level 50's have done it with help from high-levels.
Scoliosis is a descriptive term for a curvature in the spine, depending on the level of the curve could mean you are shorter as a result., For example, the surgery I had meant I grew 5 inches in the 7 hours I was being straightened So I think yes it can prevent you from getting taller but only in the sense of the shape of the curve and its position and size
If you are diagnosed with Scoliosis you should be referred to a spinal surgeon who will recommend treatments which could include bracing or surgery It really depends on the extent of the curve 10-25º observation 25-40º bracing 40-50º and over surgery
It really depends on the individual case. I have severe scoliosis and I was told I could decide. If I didn't have surgery it was possible I would have significant pain in the future. Apparently Usane Bolt has scoliosis so that is proof you can live a normal healthy life. After thinking for quite a while I decided to opt for the surgery. I will be having it next summer.
it really depends on what kind of scoliosis it is, and how bad it is. Generally, the doctors will probably do their best to make it in the shape of your body, with different shapes of padding inside of the brace instead of outside of the brace.
