It is Autumn here in Perth. Western Australia. There are dragonflies everywhere, the most I have seen in years. The number of mosquitoes is noticably less. So the earlier comments about what they eat may well be true.
Yes, they are extremely useful in gardens. In fact gardeners use other helpful insects to keep the nasty pests out of their gardens. I am still a novice gardener, but I have learned a few interesting things about natural pest control already. Dragonflies, ladybugs and praying mantises (amongst others) are great partners in reducing pests in your yard and garden. Dragonflies prey on mosquitoes and other small bugs that will annoy you and damage your plants. Ladybugs, despite their pretty, polka-dot pattern, are actually excellent assassins as well. You can buy bags of preying mantis and ladybug eggs to put in your garden. There is no way to force them to stay once they hatch, but those that do will be feast on the buggers that are feasting on your plants. Hope this helps.
IDEK! That is why I came on this website :/
They are very useful because they will consume pests that feed off the produce and plants you are growing.
They are useful because worms chew your food and turn it into garden fertilizer.

Birds that are useful to humans could be they type we use for food such as chickens which provide eggs and meat. They type that provide feathers for quilts such as geese. Hawks and other raptors that catch and eat mice and rats in the fields. Or the every day backyard birds that eat insect pests in the garden.
Male robins.
You can garden fruits, mushrooms and vegetables to feed yourself. You can garden to produce flowers and shrubs that look beautiful. You can garden to feed butterflies and birds.
Thermals are useful to birds because the hot air rises and the large wingspans of birds traps the rising air underneath causing them to rise and be able to glide.
