yes, combining DNA will obviously create a brand new unique double helix. there are occasionally mutations and undesirable characteristics (addiction, bipolar, schizophrenia, immune system vulnerabilties, oncological weakness etc...) but over time, human genes have been combining in such a way that every generation (so far) has been more intelligent, have better immune systems and we are getting taller! Just 300 years ago I would be considered a VERY BIG and tall man at 5'8", 175 lbs...now a lot of this is environmental, better food, better medicine, which are in turn a result of increasing intelligence, aptitude and physical well being. So w/ few exceptions...genetic changes are in FACT a good thing.

What is the genetic mechanism that may have been responsible for the base sequence changes between humans and gorillas?

One genetic mechanism that may have been responsible for the base sequence changes between humans and gorillas is mutation. Mutations are random changes in the DNA sequence that can occur over time, leading to genetic differences between species. Other mechanisms such as genetic drift and natural selection may also play a role in driving genetic differences between humans and gorillas.
