anyone who has grown them will know they are dicot, dicotyledonous, having two separate lobes to the cotyledon or seed-leaf, the store of food that a sprout uses to build its first true leaves. hence the split pea (it spilts into two)

A dicot is a flowering plant that has one seed leaves. Chick peas have two cotyledons, therefore it is a monocot. this can be confusing because mono means one but monocots means two leafs, di means two but dicots stands for one leaf
