Of course each dog has its own personality, so some may be less suitable, however overall they are very good.
English cocker spaniels are an excellent breed choice for both family and work. The are proven gundogs with a long line of history, with hunting 'woodcock'. They are happy to have long meaningful walks, but short frequent walks are exceptable. Due to the nature of this dog it will be very excitable and energetic, that love the company of family and other dogs. They can adapt to houses with cats, but firm rules must be given. They are NOT suitable for houses with budgies, or any type of bird for that matter. (This breed was originally bred to hunt birds and will instinctively hunt the bird that is conviniently caged and unable to escape.) I, myself have a springer spaniel and don't go one day regretting buying him. I strongly recommend you research on the breed that you're buying, as I for one didn't realise just how muddy they actually get, because they have long curly coats, it's like mud haven when you get back from the shortest of walks! I wouldn't recommend this dog because you like the way it looks, because their is A LOT more to spaniels than you think. The pro's about this dog is that it's the most loving dog you could ever want, they live for a long time, and stay energetic even after the age of 13. Basically, a fitter, fluffier, more energetic version of a labrador. (No offense to that breed.)
