Like any dog, it depends heavily on the training and treatment that it receives.

That being said, my parents got me a border collie when I was five. It was a puppy, and we grew up together. I had it going into kindergarten, and he passed away towards the end of my senior year of high school. During that time, he was a constant companion.

There are a few things about collies. They are a good family dog, but they will bond tighter with "their person" than others. He slept in my room and I was the one to take care of him, so to him, I was that person. He did feel protective of me. For instance, he really did not like it when my dad and I horse played. If he thought my dad was being rough or I would squeal, he was right there pushing between us (even though there was really no problem). He also had a tendency to feel the need to keep all of us kids herded. If we went too near the road or in a direction he didn't think we needed to be, he would run circles and kind of push us back. When I was smaller, he did knock me down a few times doing this. It's not something that you will have an easy time breaking them of, since that is what they are bred to do. He was also very high energy. One of us had to go out and play frisbee or get him running somehow every single day. They can also be a little too brave for their own good. One night there was someone outside my window, and he jumped right through the glass and chased them away. Unfortunately, he cut himself pretty badly and had to be taken to the vet. Mine also had a tendency to get heat spots (Florida) in the summer. I was constantly needing to treat those.

On the plus side, he was a very friendly and sweet dog. He was quite intelligent, and trained well. He loved the beach, water, and to play. He really did watch out for me. I was heartbroken when he passed away.

As far as guarding chickens, again, they have to be trained to do so. You don't want to trust ANY dog to just set them loose with your girls without some conditioning. However, collies tend to train well for this sort of thing. They are a commonly used farm dog, and if taught to be, they are quite gentle with smaller animals.

Can chickens have bacon?

Chickens occasionally peck at dead animals so meat products shouldn't be a problem. They shouldn't have too much and it's not the healthiest choice of feed for them.

Is there any food that is not good for chickens?

It seams that chickens know what not to eat, if they have a choice. Mainly what is bad for you (like molded food) might be bad for your chicken. They eat all sorts of things, especially hens, roosters not so much.

Which baby chick type should you get?

It depends on what you want them for. If you want them for meat, you most likely want a cornish cross. If you want them for egg laying a production red seems like the best choice. Production reds are gentle chickens who daily lay large eggs. If you want chickens as a pet, a bantam is a good choice. They come in many different breeds. Most bantams are calm and gentle.

What is the difference between vegetarian fed chicken eggs and non vegetarian?

Chickens can be fed two kinds of feed in farms: - grain feed - industrial feed the grain fed chickens are the "vegetarian fed" chickens. These are generally healthier because naturally, chickens are "vegetarians." industrial feed often has ground up pieces of other animals like hooves and bones and other odd and sometimes unhealthy ingredients. So if you have to choice, go with grain fed chicken meat and eggs. Hope that helps!

What is the opposite of turkey?

Grapefruit. Chickens are animals, grapefruits are plants. Or, part of them, at least. Chickens are feathered, grapefruit hafe thick yellowish dimpled skin. Chickens have meat, grapefruit has bad-tasting sour mush. Chickens can walk, grapefruit can only sit on a fruitbowl. Chickens probably won't stay on the fruitbowl for very long. Grapefruit has no choice. (Unless, perhaps if the chicken decided it liked grapefruit and was eating the grapefruit) Chickens are stupid. However, this is not applicable to grapefruit. See?

What do chickens like eating most?

Local produce is preferred by chickens. What they like and prefer is greens and bugs. This does not mean that is what is best. A good balanced nutritional feed has everything they need to grow and be healthy. Free range choice and table scraps are good for treats but just like children, they should be given a balance meal before dessert.
