∙ 12y agoThese are called "Network Translators" and are typically PCs using any of a variety of operating systems with the hardware or software necessary to do this task installed. For connecting different hardware networks both network standard cards need to be installed. For software translation, only software is needed. You may have heard the term VPN (Virtual Private Network) or UDP (User Datagram Protocols) or VoIP (Voice over internet Protocol) used. For simple network connections, Ehernet switches and routers are used. Switches are very simple and not often used today except in very large networks.
