coud be a couple of things. dimmers are rated by wattage, ie: if you have 3- 100 watt light bulbs on a dimmer the total load is 300 watts. most dimmers are rated at 600 watts, if you have a larger wattage load on the dimmer it will hum and perhaps over load the breaker. hope this helps!
