It was claimed that Psychiatrists have the highest incidence of proven suicides of any professional occupational group. Members of the Armed forces, having arms ready at hand , also figure big, including some cops. ( the acting Chief of Police of Jersey City fatally shot himself some years back) mercifully the papers avoided humorous headlines such as ( Top Cop Blows his Top!). On the other hand there are many cool, detached and long-lived shrinks.l

∙ 11y agoHelping someone commit suicide is assisting in the killing of a person - it is essentially murder, even if the patient feels at the time that death is the only solution to their suffering. In addition, doctors have the responsibility to heal and save lives at any cost - just check out the Hippocratic oath, which doctors still take today when they begin their practice: one line says,
I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.
For these reasons, I believe that doctors should not help people commit suicide.
