Electronic thermometers and standard thermometers are equally accurate. In terms of reliability, the standard thermometer wins. Why? Because it doesn't have any batteries to go dead.

Do pool thermometers contain mercury?

Most pool thermometers do not contain mercury. An easy way to tell if a pool thermometer contains mercury is if it sinks to the bottom of the pool rather than float.

How do thermometers works?

For a basic design of thermometers would base on the principle of thermal expansion, either using air in syringe expand and contract with temperature to indicate the scale or using liquid filled into capillary and mark the scale according to a standard thermometer.

Explain why it is necessary to have a standard thermometer?

to make the same type of measurement around world so that there is a universal when measuring certain substances.

How do handmade thermometers work?

For a basic design of thermometers would base on the principle of thermal expansion, either using air in syringe expand and contract with temperature to indicate the scale or using liquid filled into capillary and mark the scale according to a standard thermometer.

How can you measure a room height using a thermometer?

1) Place thermometer perpendicular to the floor and against the wall. 2) Make a mark on the wall at the top of the thermometer. 3) Shift thermometer up so bottom is at mark. 4) Repeat 2) and 3) until close to the ceiling. 5) Shift thermometer up until it touches ceiling and mark location of highest mark on thermometer to determine fraction of thermometer length for last segment. This would give the height of the room in units of "thermometers". This is not a standard unit of measurement, but it is a measurement. If you desire a more standard unit like centimeters, then measure the length of the thermometer and multiply by height of the room in "thermometers". However, you didn't say whether you had a ruler for measuring the thermometer. As as alternative, you could look up the length of the thermometer in the catalog from which it was purchased.

What liquid metal is most commonly used in thermometer?

The liquid metal in many thermometer is mercury (Hg).

Is mercury used in food thermometer?

In a mercury thermometer, a glass tube is filled with mercury and a standard temperature scale is marked on the tube. With changes in temperature, the mercury expands and contracts, and the temperature can be read from the scale. Mercury thermometers can be used to determine body, liquid, and vapor temperature.

Why don't thermometers read down to -300 degrees Celsius?

Well, first of all, absolute zero, the point at which there is no thermal energy is at -273 degrees Celsius, so nothing could ever get to -300 C. Also, the mercury in the thermometer would freeze long before absolute zero, and it is unlikely that a standard thermometer would ever be used below its minimum measurement. If temperature measurement was needed below the minimum measurement of a thermometer, specialized scientific thermometers are available.

What is the the unit measurement of a thermometer?

A standard thermometer has Fahrienhiet and Centigrade

Uses of alcohol thermometer?

An alcohol thermometer is a liquid-in-glass thermometer which uses ethyl alcohol to gauge temperatures. The alcohol rises and falls as it contracts or expands when a change in temperature occurs.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wet bulb thermometer?

bankbet99: There are two types of thermometers and hygrometers: thermometer and hygrometer wet and dry bulb measurement method, electronic humidity sensor measurement method Different maintenance methods The maintenance of the wet and dry ball method is quite simple. In actual use, you only need to add water to the wet ball and replace the wet ball gauze regularly. The electronic humidity sensor is an intelligent electronic conductor to work and does not require any maintenance. Different accuracy Electronic humidity sensors have been used in recent decades. Manufacturers must use standard humidity generators to calibrate the products before they leave the factory. The accuracy of electronic humidity sensors can reach 2% to 3% RH. The humidity sensor adopts semiconductor technology, so there are requirements for the ambient temperature used. Exceeding the specified temperature will cause damage to the sensor. But the accuracy is still higher than that of electronic ones.

Which scientists would have the LEAST use for a standard thermometer in their research?
