The EMG 81 and EMG 85 pickups serve different purposes and cater to different styles. The EMG 81 is known for its high output and sharp attack, making it ideal for aggressive genres like metal and hard rock. In contrast, the EMG 85 offers a warmer tone with more emphasis on mid-range frequencies, suitable for rhythm playing and smoother leads. Ultimately, which is "better" depends on your musical style and preference.
Traditionally the EMG 81 is used in the bridge position and the 85 is used in the neck position.
zakk wylde uses 81/85 emg pick-ups and they are really good for metal, and hard rock not good for alot more than that
Most metal musicians like, say Metallica use an active pickup. eg.( the EMG 81/85 )
EMG 81/85 Active Humbuckers
The EMG 81/85 set can be purchased through most music stores that deal in instruments and musical equipment. Guitar Center is also a great place to pick stuff like this up if you happen to have one of those available. If neither of these are an option, they are available online at places like Musician's Friend, Guitar Center's website, and eBay.
I've heard people switch them to that , but good thing about EMG pickups just like any other active pickups on the market you can swap them very easily without brining them to a guitar shop. you just take out the cable from the pickup and just replace it with say the 81, nothing fancy required... so go for it, some honestly like it more. Its all what you want to do really.
if your talking about emg pickups then you should be able to use them as any other pickup with any tremelo you wish

Well EMG is probably your best bet. You pickup depends on the type of music you play. EMG 81(lead) and 85(rhythm) are for most types of rock. Higher output pickups are crunchier and for harder rock.
