Skinks are in the class reptilia and ferrets are in the order carnivora.Chinchillas belong to the class mammalia and the order rodentia. Chinchillas belong in the family Chinchillidae along with the viscachas (which look a lot like rabbits or hares). They have very few close living relatives. Their parvorder is caviomorpha which contains many of the new world rodents such as degus, agouti, guiney pig and porcupines.
