I don't believe it is, but it is still in experimental stages. Genetically modified animal organs have not yet been used for human transplants. Thus the legality has not yet been tested. However there does not seem any real reason for it to be illegal; the organ only affects one person (not like a entire population eating GM meat) and it seems more 'ethical' than using a cadaveric donor (which has the issues of judging 'death' and 'consent of donation' attached to it), plus since the organ will have been created with the recipient's' in question DNA, which means they will not require immuno-suppressants. There should be fewer side-effects from drugs.

How do Schneider and Schneider define genetically modified foods?

They explain what a genetically modified food is this way: "A genetically modified (GM) food or genetically modified organism (GMO) results from the use of recombinant DNA biotechnological procedures that allow the genetic makeup of a food or organism to be altered in some way. This 'recombination' can be accomplished by moving genes from one organism to another or by changing genes in an organism that are already present. These changes result in the expression of attributes not found in the original organism."

First transgenic animal?

Transgenic organis can be said to be genetically modified organism(GMO). A GMO can be any organism or plant whose genetic material is altered by genetic engineering techniques for a reserach purpose or for a benefit. Transgenic mouse or knock out mouses, transgenic crops, plants and countless microbes are genetically altered by gene technology.
