Yes. Gerbils are very good peat for all ages. They require less time than other pets and they are relatively cheep.

Firstly you only have to clean the cage out every 3-4 weeks if it's deep unlike every week for other rodents.

Because gerbils originate from the dessert and places like Mongolia, the don't produce a large amount of urine and they don't have to drink much water either.

They do need a reasonable amount of food but they don't poo a great amount.

After buying the starting things needed mainly the cage the cost is low. The only large cost is the cage depending on the size, prices can range from £20-£100.

Things you have to buy on a regular basis is bedding (or use shredded paper) wood shavings (don't use pine or cedar or sawdust, they hurt their eyes and cause respiratory problems) gerbil food, treats, chew toys (can use homemade products).

I would also recommend buying a running ball or a wheel to give the gerbils exegesis but it doesn't matter if they don't use it because not all use them. I would also recommend a cage that either has build in tunnels or a series of levels for the gerbils to explore around but beware gerbils can chew through plastic so get either a wire cage or a gerbilarium or a mixture of both which is what I have. Also you should rearrange their toys so they don't get bored.
