It is not abnormal for girls to have hair on their back or on other places a lot of women do not normally have hair. Who knows how many girls have hair in places where they don't want it because many or perhaps most of them have removed it or had it removed.

If you are asking the question because you have some hair on your back, then my suggestion is to talk to your mom about it, even though I understand that you may be a little embarrassed. Where hair grows and the density of the growth is at least partly genetic, thus if you have it, there is a good chance that your mom has it also. You can relax and not worry about it. There are a number of ways unwanted hair can be permanently removed. A dermatologist, a medical Doctor Who specializes in skin problems, can use a special laser that will eliminate unwanted hair. It doesn't hurt at all, but it takes more than one treatment to get rid of all the hair. Another method is electrolysis. Using that, a very small amount of electrical current is sent down the hair shaft and the hair follicle is damaged such that hair cannot grow from it ever again. Normally a second treatment is done since the Dr. is careful and some of the follicles are not damaged enough and need to be zapped again. Again, the process is either painless or involves only a slight amount of pain. However, the Dr. can most likely apply a local anesthetic cream to your skin beforehand so you won't feel anything. If you want the hair gone like right now, tell your mom and I'm sure that she will help you with applying a hair remover like Nair® to the area. The user must follow the directions on the label. The active ingredient in Nair is a moderately strong alkaline compound that dissolves hair, even some of it below the skin such that it takes a while to come back.

Just remember, it is not your fault; no one can control where hair does or doesn't grow. My wife is from Taiwan and she doesn't have to shave her legs. She does have hairs on her legs, but they are very short, thin and blond so that one can't even see them unless he or she looks very close. Many East Asian, Icelandic and Scandinavian girls and women just don't have much hair on their legs or arms - it's a genetic thing.

Unless a girl has a very rare condition called alopeciauniversalis, in which case they have no hair anywhere, all women have some hair on their bodies other than on their head and around their private parts, so you are not any different than any other girl. Once they reach a certain age, all normal girls' bodies produce some testosterone, and all normal boys and men produce some estrogen. The male sex hormone in girls and the female sex hormone in boys comes from the adrenal glands, which are located very near the top of each kidney. Some girls will naturally have a little bit more testosterone than most other girls and some boys will naturally have slightly more estrogen in their blood than most other boys. It is extremely unlikely that your adrenal glands are producing too much testosterone, otherwise your doctor would have noticed it already.

Talk to your mom or the mom of your best girl friend and you will be fine.
