The term "1911" is generally used to refer to the Colt 1911 semi-automatic pistol. it is a pistol, and not a revolver. However, there ARE revolvers that fire the same cartridge- the .45 ACP. But they are not referred to as "1911s".

Is there a .50 caliber revolver?

Yes, although it doesn't fire the .50 BMG cartridge you might be thinking of... the Smith & Wesson 500X series revolvers can fire the .500 S&W Special or the .500 S&W Magnum cartridges; a number of Webley RIC revolvers were chambered for the .500 Tranter cartridge; the .500 Linebaugh cartridge is fired by converted .45 Long Colt revolvers; the .500 Wyoming Express is used by the Freedom Arms Model 83 revolver; the .500 Maximum is a variant of the .500 Linebaugh and is used exclusively in revolvers; the Freedom Arms Model 555 is a revolver chambered in .50 Action Express (same cartridge used in the Desert Eagle 50AE)

Are revolvers the same as pistols because the Civil War has pistols but they look like revolvers?

Without trying to reach a technical distinction on the weapon's nomenclature and the way that the English language works, consider these general rules: * A pistol, revolver, semi automatic and a muzzle loading derringer are all handguns. * Using the Queen's English all handguns are pistols. * In American useage all handguns are not pistols, a revolver is not a pistol because it has a revolving chamber. * All revolvers are not pistols because revolvers can be long guns or rifles as well. A revolving cylinder is a mechanism, and in both forms of the English language, a rifle using a revolving chamber is a long gun and therfore a rifle. * A derringer whether it is a cartridge firing, break open model or a cap and ball model is a pistol and a handgun but never an automatic or a revolver. * A derringer is not a Deringer, but a Deringer is always a Deringer. * A Heckler & Koch or a Colt 1911A1 automatic is a pistol and a handgun and it is never a revolver. It is also not really an automatic since it is a semi-automatic. * A Colt can be a rifle, a revolving rifle a semi-automatic or a revolver. * All revolvers are not Colts. * A pistol like the Thompson Contender is not a revolver or a semi-automatic and can become a rifle in a few seconds. A Contender can't become an automatic, but a Thompson can. * Confused? Just don't call it a gun.

Can you fire 44 magnum calibre ammunition in revolvers and rifles?

As long as both the rifle and the revolver are chambered in .44 magnum you can use the same ammunition for both. I have a Henry rifle in .44 mag and a Ruger redhawk .44 mag and I use the same ammo for both. That's one of the nice things about that caliber.

What is value of miroku 38 special liberty revolver purchased in late 1960's?

There were three Miroku 38 Special revolvers made between 1960 and 1984 when production finally ceased. The most common of these revolvers, and I use that term advisedly, was the Miroku Liberty Chief. The Liberty Chief was a 2" barreled, six-shot caliber 38 Special revolver using a mix of S&W and Colt styling. The closest design to the Liberty Clief was undoubtably the Colt Detective Special. Having handled a few of these revolvers (and owning a near-mint version) I can say they are remarkably well-made. After all, Miroku shotguns and rifles are universally thought to be quite well executed. The total number of these revolvers made exceeds 160,000, only a very few of which were imported into the US in the 1964-1967 time-frame. Personally I would consider this revolver to be every bit as carefully crafted as a Colt or S&W of the same period. If you shoot your Miroku revolver, shoot only standard pressure 38 Special ammunition. After all, most of these revolvers are over 50 years old.For a Liberty Chief in mint, new-in-the-box condition with the box, top price might be $350 - 400 is my guess. My Liberty Chief, in honest 96% condition, should bring $275 by my guess. Unfortunately, there are few people who collect these cute little unknown revolvers.
