how hard is it to replace a heater core on a 87 325e BMW 2 dr? thank you in advance.
Easy to replace. Hard to get to.
Sometimes changing a heater core can be a very big job. It is not changing the core that is hard, rather getting to it. Good luck.
Very hard.............. You will need to discharge the a/c system, pull back the dash and remove the complete a/c and heating box to remove the heater core.........
I recently installed a new heater core in a 1991 G10 van. I removed the heater fan housing, the heater core hoses, then the compartment came out. After removing the campartment has to be taken apart to replace the core. Alot of work but not all that hard.
Under the dash where the heater vent is there is some eight bolts that come out. once you take out that big plastic piece there will be another one that you can pull out. it is fairly hard to pull out. after that the heater core is right there. Hope This helps you out i just replaced mine recently. Good Luck
Remove the heater-A/C housing from the vehicle. Refer to Housing Assembly HVAC/ Service and Repair/ Procedures. Remove the screws and retainers that secure the heater core to the heater-A/C housing. Lift the heater core straight up and out of the heater-A/C housing. INSTALLATION Lower the heater core into the heater-A/C housing. Position the retainers over the heater core tubes. Install and tighten the screws that secure the heater core and retainers to the heater-A/C housing. Tighten the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) . Reinstall the heater-A/C housing in the vehicle Refer to Housing Assembly HVAC/ Service and Repair/ Procedures.
It IS a bit of a pain in the $#&(... You have to pull the plastic shroud that is around the heater box under the dash so that you can expose the heater core. ONLY THEN, after the heater core is exposed do you go under the hood and pull the heater hoses and the three or 4 nuts that hold the heater core in place. But the plastic shroud is the difficult part. You might want to see if you can locate a set of dagrams.
