Any breed can be used for western pleasure, though stock horses are most common in any western competition. Stock horses are horses that were bred for working cattle and ranching, such as Quarter Horses and their descendants, Paints and Appaloosas. Arabs are also making a statement in he western pleasure ring, though they are ridden slightly differently.
