As a true Gemini, I'd like to say that it is a little of both. I have been in the military for about 14 years and even before then, I've been a kind man, and well it all depends on the mood and how I feel that day. There are many times and more than not, that every single time I perform an act of kindness it's completely and purely unselfish, but on a very few instances I am aware and know that I've done it to feel better about myself and have others idolize me for lack of a better word.
