Teeth are formed from buds present in the jaw from birth. Teeth can differ widely in their eventual number and arrangement, but almost everyone has two sets : the deciduous (primary or baby teeth) and the permanent. Humans do not form new teeth aside from those present in the jaw.
Primary (or deciduous) teeth, and permanent (adult) teeth.

There are a total of 32 adult teeth or Permanent teeth and 20 baby teeth or Primary teeth. Of the 32 permanent teeth there are: 4 third molars or wisdom teeth, 4 second molars or 12-year molars, 4 first molars or six-year molars, 4 second premolars or second bicuspids, 4 first premolars or first bicuspids, 4 canines or cuspids, 4 lateral incisors, and 4 central incisors. One of each type of tooth is present on both the left and right side of the lower jaw called the mandible, and one of each types of tooth is also present on both the left and right side of the upper jaw called the maxilla. From the back of the mouth to the midline (meaning between the two front teeth) the order of teeth are 3rd molar, 2nd molar, 1st molar, 2nd premolar, 1st premolar, canine, lateral incisor, and central incisor. Most people develop 32 teeth, however a large number of people never develop some or all of the wisdom teeth. This is not including when wisdom teeth don't erupt and remain underneath the gum and/or jaw bone. The 20 primary teeth consist of both types of incisors (8), cuspids (4), and only first and second molars (8). There are no primary premolars or primary third molars. The primary teeth are replaced by the permanent incisors, cuspids, and premolars which erupt from underneath the primary teeth. During the usual course of development, the permanent molars erupt behind the primary teeth and therefore will not erupt from beneath any primary teeth.
Baby teeth are temporary primary teeth. They will be replaced later by adult teeth.
Primary teeth start falling off around the age of 6. The first teeth to exfoliate are usually the lower cental incisors.
