Yes, the maple [Acer spp] does flower. It's one of the earlier flowering trees. Its blossoms may show up in late winter or early spring.

In many kinds of maples, the blooms show up after the leaves. But there actually are some kinds of maples whose buds flower before the tree leafs out for the year. But either way, the effect is quite dramatic. The individual flower is quite small. Yet the combined effect of many small green or yellow, or orange or red flowers is beautifully impressive.

The maple flowers are insignificant, but any tree that sets seed first must flower.
