one is for gm and mercon is ford now days they make a dexron mercon mix acceptable to both Dexron III and Mercon V have different specs. You should not use Dexron III in place of Mercon V.
No, modern Fords use Mercon V, which is not the same as Dexron. Older models use plain Mercon which is usually dual-specced with Dexron III. Most generic fluids you buy are both Dexron/Mercon compatible, but are not equal to Mercon V unless it specifically says so. Dexron II is an obsolete fluid that is not used in any vehicle in recent decades, I don't know where you'd even get that.
Dexron is the GM name, while Mercon is the Ford name. Dexron III and Mercon V are essentially the same fluid. They make mixed fluids that are acceptable in either, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Yes . . . All dextron iii applications can use mercon v
Yes . . . All dextron iii applications can use mercon v
Mercon, or Dex/Merc, or Mercon V. MOST fluids marked Dexron/Dexron III are also Mercon certified.
You want to use MERCON V transmission fluid. Do not use MERCON/DEXRON III as this older version is not formulated to operate correctly in your transmission. The bottle must clearly specify MERCON V which has superceded the older MERCON/DEXRON III formulation.
Use any good quality MERCON V Fluid. The old specification specified MERCON / DEXRON III However, a TSB issued a few years ago specified that MERCON V fluids superscede, and will replace MERCON / DEXRON III.
No you need to use Dexron VI
MERCON V is a transmission fluid for Fords and DEXRON-VI is a fluid made for GMs. Mercon and Dexron are NOT, nor have they ever been, the same thing. People got the idea that they were because traditional ATF meets the specs of both. It doesn't mean that they have the same specs. Mercon V and Dexron VI are non-interchangeable. Always read the label of any ATF you plan to use. GM, Ford and Chrysler all use different fluids so make sure that what you choose is correct!
Mercon III is for older trucks up to ~2000, for an 05 truck I'd go Mercon V. Check with the dealer or knowledgeable tranny shop.
All 1998+ Transmissions Takes MERCON V. DO NOT USE MERCON/DEXRON III IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR TRANSMISSION.Depending on transmission work done in the past, 1996+ Transmission may take MERCON or MERCON V.If in doubt, use MERCON V.
