Acorns grow on oak trees, typically on the continent of North America. There are, however, other continents where oak trees are native plants. Countries in Europe, such as England and Wales, also have native Oak trees, along with many other countries.
There are many plants that grow in Alberta. Two native plants that come to mind are foothills rough fescue and douglas fir. The former is a grass only found in the foothills of western Alberta, and the latter is a species of tree found in the Cypress Hills of southeastern Alberta and the Rocky Mountains of the western Alberta border.
American oak refers to several different native American species of oak tree. They all look like oak trees and you can tell them apart by the shape of their leaves.
